I just got a triathlon bike. A very nice Felt DA2 bike.
I know, this is overkill for a beginner triathlete. But I want to have no excuse to do my best.
I have started going to work about once a week using the bike (this is a 35 mile ride).
I got a few flat tires already which allowed me to learn to change tubes quickly. (How lucky am I?)

I am continuing to run as well, trying to maintain at least 30 miles a week. With the heat of the summer along with an Achilles injury I picked at the Salt Lake marathon back April and a back injury I got while training, everything seems to conspire to undermine my motivation.
I had a low point in my training last year just about the same period of time (July / August). I really don't enjoy running as much when it is that hot out. The long runs are especially taxing at the moment.

This is why I signed up for 3 more races after the summer. Even though my motivation is at a low point, I know that abandoning training is not an option. I have learned all too well how bad it feels to run a marathon unprepared. Having these races lined up are the best incentive I need to keep my training going.
On August 25, I have the Rivalry relay race. I ran it last year and I know it will be a blast. The team spirit in this kind of race is inspiring and really makes you want to give your all. In September I will run the TOU marathon, and in October, the St George marathon which I consider my A race for Boston qualification at this point.
